The sun's surface has been unusually quiet over the past two years, with a worrying absence of sunspots and flares. This is connected to cooler temperatures, which means lower crop yields, which means higher wheat prices, which means higher prices for food, which is a big problem. But there's no great cause for panic - gold, silver and oil benefit mightily from such uncertainty.
